About Me
Hi!
As the administrator of the blog The Education Cafe and author of the books Nine Year Pregnancy, My Paper Pregnancy Journal, and Three Days at Sea, I welcome you to my personal blog!
Family
I have been happily married to the same wonderful man for 24 years. We have 4 kids: 1 son graduated university in 2012
and is married with one child, 2 sons are in university, and we have a 12 year old daughter. Our oldest two sons graduated from online high school (after a combination of homeschool, public school, and private school).
My favorite new role in life: Being “Mimi” to my precious grandson!
Education
I graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary studies (cognates: Education and Theology).
Hobbies and Interests
My hobbies include writing, baking, and singing. I also enjoy hiking, camping, and traveling. My father was in the Air Force, so I grew up in many locations like Texas, California, Illinois, and Germany. Since being married, I have lived in 4 countries outside of the US and visited about a dozen others. I have also visited at least 34 states. I love to travel and often tell my friends that I’d rather spend money on traveling than on things.
I am passionate about writing and enjoy helping families with their education, parenting, and adoption concerns.

Thanks for signing up on my blog, Delana. We have a lot in common. I adopted two children, home schooled them for a while, and lived overseas for over 20 years. And I teach. From the posts I’ve read, you sound like a wise woman.

Hi Delana,
Just came across your wordpress site while working on my own and thought I’d say hi. Besides sharing the same name we share the same love for travel and I have been living in Belgium for the past 23 years plus I lived in other countries while in the US Navy. I also love to write but don’t have much time for it at the moment and I’ve not yet been published. I wanted to adopt at one point but my husband and I settled for sponsoring a Tibetan child in TCV school Suja India….we now sponsor 4 children and have been to India to visit them twice. I hope we can sponsor them to come to us for a visit when they are finished with their studies. Anyway…Hello….and I wish you every success with your site, blog, writing, family…

Hi Delana, When I was in high school I sat across the table from Jerry Falwell and Jack Wyrtsen at Word of Life in NY State with my mom as he discussed his dream of creating a college. I watched in awe as God blessed that dream and in return it blessed you.
What a lovely family you have with such smiling faces! Oh, I can’t forget to thank you for liking my lemon with water blog and I do hope you’ll stop in again! We also lived in West Berlin and Augsburg Germany for six years while my husband was in the army. Loved that vagabond lifestyle and creating so many friends through it. God bless.

Hi Ellie,
Thanks for sharing! That is neat that you met Jerry Falwell back before he started the college. Today I’m drinking lot of lemon water…though it is in the form of hot water and lemon as I have a terrible sore throat! Blessings,
Delana

I thought of you this past week when I read a book and I can’t remember if you had written about reading it. It was a must read! http://www.christianbook.com/heavenly-remarkable-story-chinese-christian-brother/brother-yun/9780825462078/pd/45970?en=google-pla&kw=christian-living-0-20&p=1167941&gclid=CMumnayDm7QCFS-RPAod6E8Agg

Hi Delana,
I’m reaching out to you on behalf of PlayLab because the postings and social networking on your blog reflects our own beliefs about children and education. We have an amazing new initiative coming up, and I wanted to get more information on contributing to your site.
Like you, PlayLab thinks differently about education. We believe that creativity and innovation are the most important traits to nurture. Imagine a workplace where every member of the team is able to develop creative business solutions. Imagine children excited to learn, instead of asking, “Why do I have to learn this?”/ Imagine your child
showing you how to operate the Morse Code system they made out of pipe cleaners, and craft sticks, instead of asking you to purchase the latest video game.
We’re launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise funding for our new at-home learning system, which will have a global impact. The successful project will also raise social awareness and create a new following for this type of innovative education that benefits children, and will allow us – and our social partners, like your blog
- to create new connections and develop new audiences.
All the best,
Kassia Kukurudza Programs Manager
