Another World

She sat curled upon two chairs

In plaid, flannel pants,

A glass of iced tea on the table–

Raspberry tea–still half-full,

Lost in a novel, another’s life,

Another place, an escape,

Far from here, far from Kandahar

In between two worlds

Sat she.

At the intrusion into her “other” world,

She placed a pencil to her lips

As if to mark her place in thought

A pause between two worlds

And said hello.

Only for a moment,

Until her other world

Beckoned her to come

Step into a life where

Questions are answered,

Problems solved,

And solutions found,

At the turn of a page.
