Everyone Needs Compassion

leaving orphanage, Bangkok, ThailandYesterday, I woke up with the words on my mind to the song “Mighty to Save” by Hillsong. It is the song that begins, “Everyone needs compassion, love that’s never failing, let mercy fall on me.” Then, as God would have it, I sat down for my morning Bible reading (continuing in Romans). Yesterday’s selection was Romans 9-11. What was this section about? Of course, compassion, mercy, God’s unfailing love.

Romans 9:15–“For He says to Moses, ‘I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.'”

Romans 11:32-33–“For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all. Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!”

I then did a search in my concordance for compassion and came up with two more excellent verses.

Colossians 3:12-13–“So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.”orphanage, Thailand

James 5:11–“We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful.”

In Romans 9-11 we are promised that whoever believes in Jesus will not be disappointed and that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
