All about Faith

Sunday morning in the weekend Bible study class I attend, we have been reading and discussing Henry and Richard Blackaby’s book: Fresh Encounter. This week we talked a lot about faith and what it means. On the way home from church, the Christian radio station we were listening to (KSBJ) aired a message from Pastor Charles Stoker of Hi-Way Tabernacle. His mini-message on faith provided the perfect follow-up to our class discussion.

Pastor Stoker used the letters in FAITH to help us understand and easily remember what faith means. Here is a summary of what he shared on Sunday October 1, 2011:

Focuses--believes without seeing; He shared an analogy of a contractor with his blueprints, viewing those as if viewing the actual finished product. (see Hebrews 11:1)

Acts–faith without works is dead (James 2:14-26). He shared that if we are praying for rain, we ought to have the umbrella in the car with us if we are praying believing.

Invests–He talked about investments we make in our country and our marriage. He talked about investing in the spread of the gospel by planting seeds. I cannot remember what verse of Scripture he used here, but one that quickly comes to my mind when talking about investments is the passage about the talents. (Matthew 25:13-30)

Talks– He gave these references–Psalm 34:2; Romans 10:6, and Joel 3:10.

Hangs on! — This is my personal favorite! He mentioned that when our faith is based on God’s Word that we need to hang on, not retreat, stay the course. He talked about God’s timing. He mentioned those listed in the hall of faith in Hebrews 11 and that patience inherits promise. He shared that there are over 32,000 promises in God’s word.  And, that we need to believe God that He will meet our needs.

I am currently writing a book that chronicles a period of waiting on God, believing Him, and seeing Him answer a decade long prayer. I’ll keep you posted here as the book gets further along in its stages of going to print.

As you go about your day–your week–focus on, act on, invest in, talk about, and hang on to God’s promises! Have FAITH!
