With Interest

I have been contemplating lately the things that we pass down to our children. Over the past week, during my quiet times, I have been studying the story of Joseph from the book of Genesis. It is a story of hatred, betrayal, forgiveness, grace, and love. But the story did not begin with his 10 brothers betraying him. Joseph’s father Jacob had a history. He betrayed his brother Esau and deceived his father Isaac.

Ten out of twelve of his sons then grow up to betray their brother Joseph (selling him as a slave) and deceive their father Jacob (into thinking wild animals killed him). What Jacob had done was compounded ten fold. Sobering, isn’t it?

What investments are we making? Oftentimes, our children grow up to fill our shoes…
