A Tablespoon of Poop

Imagine this beautiful, luscious, rich, creamy, divine piece of chocolate cake just waiting for you to take a bite.

Then, someone comes along and puts a tablespoon of poop on top. Still want to eat it?

“NO WAY! That’s gross. That’s disgusting,” you say.

Degrees of disgusting.

Imagine the same cake. It now has an ice-cream scoop of poop on it. Still disgusting.

Same cake. Now has a quart of poop. Can’t even see the cake anymore.

Yes, in a sense, each scenario seems more disgusting then the last.

However, even the tablespoon of poop was disgusting enough that most of us couldn’t even begin to imagine wanting to touch it, much less eat it.

We think about sin or wrongdoing in degrees. We say things like: “It’s just a little white lie.”

Or some say, I’m not really all that bad, I haven’t committed any of the big sins. I’m not a murderer.

A little white lie would be like serving up chocolate cake to the king with a tablespoon of poop on top.

God is the King of kings … what are our lives serving up?
